Geneviève-Renée Bisson
A native of the Outaouais Region, Geneviève-Renée Bisson is a multi-disciplinary vocal artist and musician, with a diverse background in Classical voice, gospel, Broadway, R&B, World Music and jazz.
Renée’s musical career has spanned working as a soloist, music teacher, choir director and organist. She’s performed at well-known festivals and venues across Ontario (Fallsview Casino, Beaches International Jazz Festival, Brantford Jazz Festival, Greg Frewin Theatre), and held a residency at the Hilton Fallsview Hotel in Niagara Falls (The Rio Trio ’10-‘15, Latin Twist ’15-‘17) singing over 160 shows a year. The project was nominated by the Niagara Music Awards for Best Jazz Band in 2010, and released a self-titled album in 2014, produced by argentinian-canadian artist, Rubén Arancibia. The release garnered two Niagara Music Awards (Instrumental, Producer of the Year).
Renée applies a unique interpretation to a vast musical catalogue that includes Latin jazz, soul, pop, and blues. She sings in five languages (English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian) and loves the opportunity to play Latin minor percussion (maracas, guiro, clave, cabasa). Since joining the Jimmy Stahl Big Band in 2016 for their appearance at the Brantford International Jazz Festival, Renée has found a new passion fronting the 19-piece orchestra at venues across Southern Ontario and the GTA. The project won the 2019 Niagara Music Award for Jazz artist of the year with tracks from their new release "I Just Found Out About Love".
A 20-year resident of Niagara, you can see her performing locally in a duo “R&R” with Rubén Arancibia. Recent engagements with the Jimmy Stahl Big Band have been; Queenston Park Concert Series, Toronto Beaches Jazz Festival, Headlining Act at Art in Victoria Park – Woodstock, closed recording session with Jukasa Media Group, live studio recording at Sessions on The River, 2018 Montebello Park Concert Series, 2018 Fonthill Bandshell Concert Series, the 2017 TD Niagara Jazz Festival, the 2017 TD Niagara Jazz Festival Big Band Fundraiser, the Grand Opening Gala for McMaster University L.R.
